Special Prizes and Awards

The Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 1st, 5:00pm (details to come). 

In addition to awarding Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, participants may be considered for additional special awards and prizes. A list of possible awards is below. Please note that this list is based on last year’s fair an may not be accurate for this year.

Award Prize
Canada Wide Science Fair Up to 11 top Gold medal projects will be invited to participate in the Canada Wide Science Fair held in May.
York University Entrance Scholarship The $2000 York University Entrance Scholarship is to be awarded to the top senior project
University of Ottawa Admission Scholarship The University of Ottawa $1000 Admission Scholarship is awarded to a deserving senior-level science fair project to encourage the winner(s) to pursue university sciences or technology studies.
York University Spark Lab Program Award (1 Week of Summer Camp)

 

One week registration at the York University’s Spark Lab Program 2022 for an Intermediate or Senior Student (Grade 9-12).
York University Science Engagement Program Award (1 Week of Summer Camp)

 

One week registration at the York University’s Science Engagement Program 2022 for an Junior Student (Grade 7-8).
Vladimir Vernadsky Award The $100 award is presented in honour of the scientific endeavors of Russian-Ukrainian scientist Vladimir Vernadsky whose works have contributed to geology, geography, geosphere, biosphere and noosphere. This award is given to the project that reflects ideas that best support sustainable development.
Cournoyea / Paz-Soldan Award The $50 “Cournoyea/Paz-Soldan Presenter’s Choice Award” is presented to the project that, in the eyes of the fair participants, is the best overall project.
YRSTF Challenge Awards $100.00 will be awarded to the top project in each of the 8 challenge categories:  Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food; Curiousity and Ingenuity; Digital Technology; Disease and Illness; Energy; Environment and Climate Change; Health and Wellness; Natural Resources;
Environment Award presented by Dr. Ray Clement The $300 “Environment Award” is given to a project judged to be the Best in-Fair about any aspect of environmental science. The project may be an  Experiment, Innovation, or Study; The winning project will be that which is  clear, concise, logical, and conducted according to the best principles of  scientific investigation.
Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) Award This prize will be given to the best project in Meteorological and Oceanographic Sciences.  This includes projects in weather, air quality, climate, climate change, oceans and related sciences.  The winner will receive $150.00.  A second place prize of $75 will also be awarded.  The winning students will receive free membership to CMOS for 1 year.

 

YRSTF Communicaton and Presentation Award This $100 award is given to best oral presentation and display board not  selected for CWSF.
Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Award This prize will be given to a project of exceptional merit dealing with  astronomy or space/physics engineering. This prize has a value of $50.00  per student, a T-shirt, and membership to the RASC.
Home Innovation Award

 

The $50 "Home Innovation Award" is presented to a project that best  demonstrates innovation in the area of home improvements and/or the  development of sustainable homes.
